Austin got the month started off right by looking through the ads during breakfast and coming up with some ideas for his Christmas list! ;)
Conference weekend is always a highlight! We spend the early afternoon with my family while enjoying my mom's traditional brunch and then we spend the evening with Logan's family. This year we drove to Oakley and had dinner at Logan's sister's cabin. The weather was perfect so we had a great time outside! Austin is finally getting old enough to explore a little bit around the cabin and he had a lot of fun outside while Logan made a fire. We sure love spending time with both of our wonderful families!
I'm catching Austin reading books on his own more and more lately and sometimes he prefers to read them on his own even when I'm sitting right by him. He climbs up on the rocking chair and insists on looking through them alone.
We enjoyed a morning at Wheeler Farm with some moms in our ward a few weeks ago and, aside from Austin almost getting attacked by a goose, had a really fun time! Austin loved sitting on the big tractor and thought the cow train was "meh". He and Liam sat next to each other and I was nervous they were going to push each other out! When I ran to break up one little cat fight the dumb car drove over my foot haha. We may or may not ride that thing again for awhile!
Our neighbors own a giant black cat that acts nothing like a cat should. It's not as scared of strangers as it should be and often sits in our backyard like it owns the place. I took Austin outside to play one day and it was sitting next to his playhouse and he was so happy! The cat finally walked away when he got pretty close but he was hoping the cat would've stay to play!
On October 8th, we joined the soccer mom/dad club and bought a minivan! Several people have asked (or silently wondered, I'm sure) why we bought a minivan already and our answer is that a few different factors went into it. We're feeling it's time for another baby and we knew we'd feel cramped in our Sonata if we add another one. Our good friends, the Murdocks, own a few dealerships so when a great deal on a van popped up on their website, we were super tempted! Logan's dad offering to buy our Sonata was the last persuasion we needed so we jumped on it! It's funny how many stereotypes there are with minivans--we hear about them even more now that we own one! Logan and I don't mind driving a minivan at all and actually love it! It's going to be super convenient when we have more kids so we're excited to have it for the next decade or so!
Austin always behaves better at church when he has Lily and Liam to play with! They were super cute together a few weeks ago :)
Austin had fun playing in the leaves this month and loved watching Logan mow and rake them up. You know those perfect pictures of kids throwing leaves in the air with giant grins on their faces? I attempted to capture a moment like that and you could say it didn't work out so well.
I have a feeling there won't be too many opportunities left for my grandpa to sit in the backyard like he loves so we're taking advantage of those moments every chance we get.
This picture does not do the situation justice but I don't want to forget it. I made Austin Eggos one morning and after he finished eating he took the syrup-filled plate and put it right on top of his head before I could stop him. I may or may not have waited until later that night to clean it out in the bath...
Logan had fall break this month so we did as many things together as possible while he had some free time. An early shop and lunch at Costco was a hit for sure!
We went to Cornbelly's for the first time this year and had a good time! Austin was still a bit young to participate in much so he loved just running around more than anything but we still enjoyed it! I'm excited to go back next year when he's a little older!
Austin would live outside if we let him! On days that I tell him we can't go out yet he loves sitting in the window watching people and cars go by.
Austin is really into forts but loves ruining them before we really get a chance to play in it. I found a way around that by making one over his crib and he thought it was the best!
My neighbor and I ran some errands together earlier this month and it was way more fun having a buddy come along! I think Austin enjoyed having Beck there :) Now we just need to work on Austin's cheesy face.
A couple weeks ago before the Utah vs UCLA game we had a neighborhood tailgating bash with the families on our street and it was tons of fun! There was a lot of delicious food, great company, and the kids ran wild and loved it. Austin probably ate the equivalent of three or four tomatoes so we caved and gave him can of soda all for himself and he was in heaven! He couldn't believe we let him have it so he kept his distance from us so we wouldn't change our minds :) He also loved riding the scooter with daddy's help! When he wasn't playing, of course he was eating.
Austin's cousin, Lily, had her fourth birthday party a few days ago and Austin had a pretty good time! He didn't participate in anything but loved making his own fun with Liam!
Austin was being abnormally quiet on Saturday morning and I was worried he was into some crazy mischief but when I found him he was eating some food Logan had forgotten to put away the night before. I'm sure that Asian food tasted great after sitting out forever! Our little foodie loved it, of course :)
Later on Saturday Logan took Austin outside to play in the backyard while he mowed and it was taking him longer than usual so I went out to check on them and found this :) Austin was in HEAVEN!
Austin still makes giant messes while eating and I still hate cleaning them up! Thankfully he has such a cute face!
We all enjoyed Halloween so much this year! Growing up, Halloween was a big deal and my mom made the yummiest dinner that we all enjoyed before spending the night trick-or-treating. Now that we're all older with our own families we don't all get together as much on Halloween so I tried re-creating that family tradition this year. We invited some friends over and ate delicious chili (thank you, Krystal, for the recipe!) and then we took the kids trick-or-treating. Austin caught on pretty fast and seemed to have a lot of fun! We didn't go very far but he got plenty of candy by the time we were done. I completely forgot to take a normal picture of him but I do have a few candid photos. We were having too much fun so it slipped my mind! And that does it for October! It's hard to believe we're already into November--the greatest month of the year! Thanksgiving is right around the corner and we're already getting excited!
